The 525i comes with a narrower tire than the other e34s. The stock tire that comes on all wheels of the 525i, any year(I believe), is 205/65R15. The other e34s and those 525i's that upgraded their tires have 225/60R15. So your spare tire must have the wider tire. The other e34s (I believe, other please help with this) have a carpet that lines the trunk floor, under the trunk mat. So this helps keep the trunk mat flat. I am also in the process of figuring this out, but this is all I know.

I currently have a full size bmw rim and tire for my spare but the tire is so wide that it lifts the carpet that covers it and shows a bulge.
