I have been chasing a problem with check lights for about 9 months. Usually get Brake Light within 15 minutes of driving, sometimes Licence Plate and sometimes these two plus Dipped Beam and Tail all on together. Problem only occurs when either park or headlights are switched on. Did all the usual, checked wiring, contacts and replaced lamps. Dealer suggested new LKM which I fitted and did not fix. Finally put into dealer to fix which resulted in about 30 hours work doing all the above plus trying new CCM and instument cluster to no avail. I have Bentley Manual and electronic experience so was surprised that a scope was not used to check data lines and voltage supply lines for interference which to me seems like basic electronic trouble shooting. Dealer had technical input from BMW who also did not know what could be cause. They also had another car with same problem. The source of interference causing the problem was finally identified by trial and error as coming from the headlight throw adjusters that are connected to the park terminal of the headlight switch. These are not shown in the Bentley manual as they were not fitted to US cars. I live in Australia and we apparently get European spec cars.
The solution is to replace the throw adjusters. Due to the time spent using my car as guinea pig the dealer heavily subsidised the cost to me. This fix worked on the other car as well. Looks like a Tech Bulletin may come out on this.
