My guess is the dual mass flywheel is starting to loosen up. Nothing to worry about as the only way to verify it is to pull the tranny and until their is a major problem I would just let it go.

When I started my 91 525i Sport (M50) this morning and dipped the clutch, it made an intermittent grinding / rattle which stops when you let the clutch up. The car drives fine apart from the noise every time I dip the clutch. It sounds as if something has come loose inside the clutch housing. Has anyone seen this before. Any clues what it might be.
