The original headlight is not designed for such a powerful light in the first place so they simply designed it for regular halogen bulb. When you put the HID kit in, the light is shot out wider and farther due to the intensity.

OEM HID that came with the cars are designed for HID in the first place... and the main criteria is to control it... so it is very tightly controlled to the original spec of the DOT. I compared my car setup to MB E320 that has the HID option... mine beats it hands down.

One thing is that my headlight is eurospec eliipsoid and the MB is half eurospec ellipsoid allowed by DOT.

Last suggestion is that make sure your headlight is in 'like new' condition... if it has condensation inside or pitted as the car age... the light output stinks and may cause extreme glare onto oncoming car. Euro ellipsoid have zero glare... just a very bright light... zero glare unlike the DOT headlight.
