Removal of Onboard Computer -- 1993 model 525 (archive)

I am attempting to remove the onboard computer in order to replace the light bulbs in it.

The Bentley manual indicates to just push the level forward to remove the computer. Well, I have pushed and pulled without anything moving.

Is the lever pushed to the front of the car or towards the back of the car. Should you lift up the lever when pushing.

Any other ideas on how to dislodge the onboard computer?
