I would recommend Dinan. They do regular service and repairs on "regular" BMW's in addition to their performance work. They're in Mt. View and prices are "reasonable" for the Bay Area. It will never be inexpensive here due to property values (rent) and cost of labor. Probably less than the dealer. They provide courtesy ride and pickup.

I had my radiator and fan clutch replaced at Dinan a few months ago.

Go for dinanbmw.com for the telephone number and be sure to print out the directions / map. It's located in one of those "you can't get there from here" places.

A few years ago, I heard good things about A&E in Campbell but that's farther away. There's also an independent BMW shop on Alma Street in Downtown Palo Alto. I need to find the name. I don't know their reputation but they have a lot of cars there for service!

Be sure to go to a place that specializes in BMWs as you can see from the postings here that they have their quirks like any marque. A specialist will usually be more efficient working on the car and in the diagnosis of problems.
