I have Bilstein HDs with stock springs on my car, and I find it to be too stiff for my taste.

There is no difference in stiffness between Bilstein Sport and Bilstein HD for these cars. The difference is in the design of the shock, the Sport is a shorter shock for use with lowering springs.

I would recommend replacing the stock shocks with Boge Turbo Gas shocks if you're not going to lower the car. The ride with them will be very close to stock.

Sorry I can't help you with the part numbers.

I was very happy with the Bilsteins that I installed in my 1978 530i. They have a lifetime warranty. They provided me a replacement set without any quibbles... I drove the car 298,000 miles - don't recall exactly how many miles on the original Bilsteins - perhaps 135,000 miles.

If you opt for the Bilsteins get the Heavy Duty and not the Sport version. The Heavy Duty may be a little firmer than factory stock but the Sport version is really too stiff to live with everyday unless you're a serious autocrosser, etc. and would not mind.

Once the shocks are worn on my E34 I'll switch to Bilsteins and have some Dinan bushings installed too.
