Bulb to solder in window switch? (archive)

Well, I've tried two from Radio Shack with no luck. They have some glue around the bottom of the bulb where the wires come out and the bulbs seem to be just a little too big around to fit in very well.

After cutting away enough of the glue to get the bulb to seat down into the switch and soldering it, they don't light up!

Bulbs were Radio Shack pn 272-1141A, mini lamp, 12 volts, 25ma. Anyone know of a different bulb to try, or maybe my soldering just SUX!
