The "plastic piece" you refer to...is that the black plastic "grill" that is under the wipers and visible when lifting the hood?
Thanks for your help!

is the plastic piece under the wiper arm. There is a service bulletin regarding the fix. What they do is put foam insulating tape about 1/4 thick under it to glue it down and dampen the vibration. Here is a link to fix the bulb on the check control.
Just bought a 1990 525i with only 77,000 miles...I have to fix a couple items and dont know where to start:
1. The Check Control "scrolling" readout is very dim compared to the rest of the readouts (ie odometer, etc). Is this a capacitor problem in the cluster, and where do you get replacement capacitors? There are no other gage/readout problems with this cluster. (Maybe I'll just live with it).
2. The driver's side wiper "buzzes" when around 50 mph....the wiper arm is an OEM BMW with a built-in "spoiler" (for lack of a better term) built onto the topside. I have yet to find an aftermarket wiper that fits on this arm. Has anyone else experienced a buzz from the wiper (it goes away when I take the wiper off), and is there any fix other than replacement with an OEM style from the dealer?
3. Where can you buy the tool for resetting the service lights? (20 pin plug on my car)
Thanks in advance for all your help!
Dave
