In my particular case, the oil I found in the spark plug bores was not from a spilled oil fill.

I had significant "old oil" in bores #1, #2, and #5.

I just purchased a new valve cover gasket and plan to install it this weekend.

Any comments about the use of a gasket compound with this design of gasket?
