I fairly certain you need to drop the exhaust to replace it. The sensor is located right near the tail of the transmission on the top of the pipes, where the two pipes from the engine come together and ahead of the CAT.
I'm not sure how it will affect the engine management system, but it's likely not good. I think I'd pay for the Next Day Air freight from Zygmunt or the like and change it first. Good luck.

I am unable to get a sensor for about a week. The check engine light is on and the diagnostic codes (1221) indicate that it has failed. My question is, I need to drive about 500 miles before I get the replacement sensor. Will this cause me problems by driving it before I replace sensor? Also, I haven't located it on the exhaust yet. Is it difficult to access to change on a 95 525i?
