I am planning on going synthetic from 2002 and on... I am planning on changing the oil one time a year at about 12,000 miles a year travel. If BMW says 15,000 miles per oil change, then I think we are on the safe side... even though they suggested every 7500 miles at the dealer themselves. As for the oil filter, I think I will change it twice a year.

The biggest criteria is what is suitable for use in winter in your area. I definitely know I will need a 10W in my area Northeast... and the thing is every oil at the store is in 10W30 or lower... and I was thinking of 10W40 because of the summer condition. Since synthetic is far superior in cold climate, I don't know about if 15W50 is suitable...

Anyway, right now I am really scratching my head about which brand to use... Mobil 1 or Amsoil... Amsoil seem to be better according to their reports but I would like to see independent reports also. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
