I don't believe you're required to have multiple estimates... at least in California. Folks - Please chime in and correct me if you know otherwise.

Go to the best possible shop. You'll want all factory parts despite the insurance company saying they will guarantee against rust-through, blah, blah, etc. as long as you own it. In the San Jose area, Bee-line is one of the best BMW specialists. There are good shops throughout the country. Just need to do a little research.

My insurance broker, Wm W Kelly & Co. really went to bat for me a little over 2 years ago for the factory parts, etc. BMW was co-marketing with a very good insurance company that insured me via my broker but it was then sold to another firm which didn't understand the marque & the customers. So they didn't understand color-sanding, factory parts, etc. Bee-line got tired of hassling them for about 2 hours of work on the color sanding and just threw it in. They have a lot of pride in their work.
