Upon closer examination, the cd is in fact still in the changer. The little greyish line indicating cd 1 is missing. The cartridge is fully inserted so there is no way to slip a piece of cardboard under it. I will try the careful pry method. Thanks.

if it's an alpine unit, you may have to pry it out. carefully do this using two slotted screw drivers. your gonna feel at one point when it feels like its gonna come out, but then it'll go back in because you lost the grip. when you get to this point, pull harder. it'll eject out.

now look inside the cd changer. you may see that there is a cd still in there. you will need some needle nose pliers to get this out.

i fixed two alpine changers this way. one was a bmw alpine unit, and the other was a honda alpine unit.

disclaimer: proceed at your own risk! just because this has worked for me, it may not work for you.

So was mine. As long as there is no mechanism from the cartridge extending into the changer, the cardboard method should work. My friend that owns a stereo install shop showed me this trick.

Good luck
