It was an automatic, and when I would stomp on it it would drop to the "passing gear" and the rpm's would climb...but then when I took my foot off the gas completely it would remain in the passing gear. It wouldn't down shift back to 3rd or 4th which I was in before until the revs dropped way down. Is this normal?! I have never driven an automatic BMW until this, but it sure didn't seem right!

I hate to say it but, my 525 did the same thing and went 4 times to the dealership to correct the problem. I was some sort of pressure problem that wasn't resolved until the replacement to the tranny. Since then it has not done again. Have you changed your tranny fluid & filter yet? Also verify that you tranny fluid is not low since that too will cause this problem. Cleaning should remove this problem but since mine was under dealer care and not costing me a dime, I killled it for a new one not letting then have a chance to slavage the 60k tranny! The dealer had also suggested a product called Transfusion that restores transmission performance. NOTE: I didn't try the stuff.

95 525ia Sharked!
