Front seat - passenger falling backwards! (archive)

I have manual seats in my car, and the passenger side item is causing some problems. Whenever a new passenger gets in, and pulls on the lever to recline the seat back, its falls freely backwards onto the rear seat...passenger included.

There should be a strong spring of some type in there. My guess is that its broken/disconnected.

Any experiences of this??

How might I remove the seat?

I admit trespassing on this board - car is actually an E32 (730i). Seats are hopfully common to E34, but 99% of E32's have power seats, so E32 board can't help.
