Drew Zacharda and I ran the same size tire on e38 rims and had mixed results - 94 530iT/Dunlop SP5000 - no rub at all; 90 535i lowered/Dunlop SP5000, slight rub; 92 525iT/BFG gForce KDWS, considerable rub requiring spacers. The tire make may have been an issue, though the KDWS's tech specs shows a narrower profile (9.2 vs 9.3") than the Dunlop.
Mount them up, put weight on them, then feel/look for contact on the strut tower. The contact will only occur when the suspension is loaded, and may only occur when it is compressed and/or turning. If there is contact, I have a pair of H&R 5mm spacers I could be induced to sell, if you can't find a set anywhere else.
Well, I had a nail go through the sidewall of my tire on the old bottlecaps, so the e38 wheels (off 740i 16" x 8") are going on today. NTW only had the Z-rated tire in stock, I would have preferred the V.
Just checking one more time - am I doing everything right? I'm sure the size is correct (225/55/r16), and I'm fairly certain that I don't need spacers (car is not lowered).
