In one of the "Roundel" magazines, there is a bulletine posted about extended intervals between oil changes for newer BMWs. Those cars use a different oil filter, one which traps more of the pollutants in the oil than normal ones. So eventhough BMW uses synthetic on their newer cars they still use better oil filters.

Now I just wonder if the newer oil pump systems compensate for any performance decline due to the filter.
