The stomp test is a little tricky & takes some patience. The first time i tried, it took 5 attempts to get it right. Even now i donít allways get it on the first shot. While iíve never heard of the lamp just comming on as a fault in and of itself, it is a possibility. My g/fs Probe [bought it before i met her =( ] has that light on as a permanent fixture in her dash. But thats comparing apples to rotten oranges. (FORD = found on roadside dead).
Also you did mention the wacked idle, so i would surmise something IS amiss.
Stomp a few more times.
Good Luck.

94 530iT&A, Helga; Check engine light once (bad o2 sensor), drove it away =D.
92 Sentra SE-R, Teddy; Never saw it. New o2 sensor anyway (116K miles!)
