1989-1991 BMW vehicles which have a CD Changer Controller radio can be fitted with a Pioneer CDXM30 after market CD Changer. You MUST use the after market CD data cable when installing a CDXM30 changer in these vehicles. DO NOT use the OEM CD data cable.

1991- Early 1994 BMW vehicles which have CD Changer Controller radios and are fitted with a 14-Pin data cable which is terminated in the trunk are compatible with the Pioneer CDXM30 after market CD Changer when installed in conjunction with PIE Part # BMW-PIO/M CD Changer Interface Convertor. One end of the BMW-PIO/M adaptor plugs into the 14-Pin OEM CD data cable and the other end plugs into the Pioneer Changer's 2X7 chassis plug. Use of the changer's after market data cable is not necessary and is superfluous.

Currently, late 1994 to present BMW vehicles are not compatible with any after market CD changer. These vehicles have a different data chip in their radio which does not allow the OEM radio to respond to the Pioneer CDXM30 after market changer. The three new radios which employ this type of data chip are:
Alpine Series V (5) Pioneer BMW Four Series Pioneer P102 Series

These radios can be identified by holding DOWN the Negative (-) Tuner button and the Program button simultaneously. The model radio will display.
