I have heard many people who have converted their M30 into an M5 motor, or at least very close to it. Plus, because of the 535i's age, there are many in the junkyard. Hey, don't we do this car thang for the fun of it?

If you were considering an M3 drivtrain, I would probably go for the 535i first because of its torque capabilities and its price. There are many surprises in a swap so save for those little pieces here and there. If you want to try a 5sp with an M3 drivetrain, sorry I don't have one, but I do have M3 cams plus many other goodies. Just e-mail me for a spin.

P.S. try CoPartfinder.com for wrecked cars in the area.

Morning all,
Had a vision bout a kick-butt Manual Touring concept last nite. Find a 92 which succumed to the plastic impeller or other major engine catastrophe. Pitch drive train. Drop in a M30 drivetrain (w/ 5-sp of course). Seems cheaper than 530 manual conversion (with proper part sourcing ie wrecked 535) or later M3 drivetrain.
Should i start some serious research or lay off the after dinner port&fattie.

PS Or wait for next promotion and look @ importing either 540iTM or M5T.
