Wild. I was getting ready to post the same question about the same problem with my 540. Does this same situation about the thermostat housing apply to my car too? I keep getting a low coolant error, I fill it back up and a week or two later and it's back - I can smell coolant from the front of the engine, not the radiator - so I assume it's the same thing?? Not the water pump right? It doesn't have a weep-hole or plastic impeller does it? help . . . .Thanks guys!

My 530i is leaking coolant. It appears to be dripping from the point where the lower radiator hose connects to the black plastic thermostat housing. I'm planning to replace both the hose and the thermostat housing and thought I'd check if anyone had experienced similar problems. Specific questions:
1. Should I replace the water pump at the same time? Does the 530i (V8) water pump have a plastic impeller?
2. Is there a bleed screw on this engine to bleed air after I refill the cooling system?
Thanks for your advice!
