Hi, Thanks for all of the posts and information. I stopped in at my dealer yesterday and spoke to the parts men who have worked there for over 20 years. They have replaced a few cannisters over the years. I spoke to the Technician and he stated that he has replaced many of them. The cars that had the most problems in our area were the 88-89-90 735i models. After we talked for a few minutes he recommended purchasing a new cannister. He also stated that later model V-8's had this problem and they had a campaign where they brought the cars back for a new center section in the cannister. This required these cars to use a different filter. He has changed many of these. So I broke down and ordered the parts, cannister and gasket ( Thanks for the part numbers Adnan, I like to double check that my part number matches the one they order for me ).
But here is a mystery that I will solve this morning. I keep my pager in my briefcase and only wear it during business hours, so when I retrieved it this morning on my way to work, I had received a page from my parts man at the BMW dealer at 5:30 PM last night. I will let you all know if there is a problem in getting this part or maybe they just want to give me more of a discount off of the price of the new cannister HA!!!
This is a great board!! Are any or all of you BMWCCA members?
Thanks again
