I've taken my car to Pacific BMW in Glendale and they told me that the engine sounds good and that they don't recommend doing the test. Since my warranty is almost up I might consider shelling out the fee for the test and take my chance. I will try and run it with 87 octane before i bring it in for the test. Anyways, you think it would be silly to bring my car all the way out in Sterling since I live in Burbank??? I would take it there if I would have better chances of getting my block replaced. Or should I just try it first in my neighborhood BMW service and go to Sterling as my last resort? Thanks for your help!
Sterling was very upfront with me in that my 95 530i idled pretty darn smooth. They mentioned that it would probably pass the test. But later that morning, the service advisor called and said I was getting a new block/failed the test! Keep in mind, I ran Arco 87 a week before I took it in for the test. An independent BMW mechanic recommended doing it, so I figured why not, can't hurt. Either way, Sterling and Crevier do many V8 block changes. Let me know if I can help out.
How are they as far as getting a leakdown test done? I'm almost out of warranty and trying to find out ways to get my block replaced? Thanks.
Sterling BMW (Newport Beach) and Crevier (Santa Ana) both do a lot of block replacements. I had mine replaced at Sterling last September. They did a great job!
Anyone know of BMW dealerships thats done a lot of Nikasil engine block replacement in the Los Angeles County area?
