Not sure on your car, but doesn't the strut bolt into a cap with one bolt and the cap mount to the body with three bolts? If so, you should just be able to replace the cap.
Should be safe to drive, but I wouldn't go racing with it that way! If you want, call me next week and we can work on it some evening.

I was checking torque on the strut bolts that bolt the strut into the body. There are three on each strut under the hood. Some were torqued to about 10 ft-lbs. Others to around 15 ft-lbs. I realize the spec is 16 ft-lbs. But I thought I'd torque them all to 20 ft-lbs because I've been having some movement under the front end that I can't figure out. Anyway I went around to torque them all to 20 but one of them only went to about 18 and then twisted off.
Is the car safe to drive now? Should I go with an OEM single strut or replace both with an after market?
