BMW says 60K, but 50K is more realistic to really preclude losing the belt. If you do lose the belt, pistons and valves meet each other and your wallet gets light very quick. But, even replacing the belt doesn't mean this won't happen. I have known people who had belts break at 20-40K miles. Just have to hope it doesn't happen. BTW, belt replacement is 400 at the dealer.
