Old Springs: Replace or Not (archive)

2 weeks ago I planned on replacing upper control arms and buying new tires for my '93 525i.

Then decided to get new Bilsteins while I was tearing into it. Checked ride height. Front is 1/4" lower and back is 2" lower than Bentley specs.

After tearing into front, found sway bar links bad. Thrust arm bushing OK but balls joints shot, so replaced.

I've already spent $550.00 on shocks and thrust arms (not counting tools) $600 with sway bar links. Springs will run $100.00 apiece, so now I'm up to a grand. And no tires.

Clearly the back springs need replaced. Can I get by on front springs? I know its smart to do 'em while strut is disassembled, but this project is getting expensive! And I haven't even torn into the back yet!

Bav Auto springs a great deal at $199.00 for 4 but don't want overly firm ride, a bit worried about Bilsteins as it is.

Thanks for any help.
