You needed to check the fluid levels every day because you never knew when they were going to leak out through a defective gasket. Also, I'm convinced that my XKE had so many gauges on the dash so that when they started going out in sequence you knew you had an electrical fire!

I have had my share of old English cars... Jag, MGA, Healey etc.... The Owner's manuals go into detail of what you should do every morning... oil, water, air, etc etc. These were the 50s/60s cars and I guess the Chaufeur would do most of it... anyway... The Jag manual was great...they had you check everything except the torque on the head.
