Hey, I just went through this, although you can't get the code out of the stereo, you can loosen the allen screws, slide the radio out, write the serial number down, and call the dealer. Ask for parts, the parts guys usually have more time and can be easier to get information from. They'll say they would rather see you to make sure it's not stolen (like having a factory stereo out of an E34 is wanted saught after on the black market, except maybe ebay) but tell them you live 2 hrs from them and could fax your title or something, they will usually give in then and say, no problem, blah blah, here it is.

Hope that helps, loosening the radio and sliding it out is a 5 minute job and I think a 2.5mm allen will work if your careful not to strip anything.

Also, get on-line and find the dealship, they usually have a 1-800 number if you don't live near them. I called the Rochester dealership, the parts guy there will do anything, start out by asking what a speaker cost and work your way up to a question like, "By the way, if I need my radio code, how do I get it"......
