I had an 84 528e that I sold to a good friend, and a few weeks later, it caught fire. The cause of the fire is that the fuel line that runs from the fuel pressure regulator, and the intake manifold burst and sprayed fuel on the exhaust manifold. I think the rest is obvious. Well, he sold the car to someone else here in town, and they (not a professional ) rebuilt it. Just like yours, only a burned windshield washer tank and some fried wires. I would try to rebuild it if you have the time, skills, and tools to do it. Also, I hope you used an ABC rated fire extinguisher, and not a hose to put it out.

Just my $.02

I have an 83 528e and it caught fire the other day. Here's the real problem... the car doesn't have fire insurance and I don't know what to do with it now. Other than the wires under the hood and the hood it's self, the car is mint. Any suggestions as to what I should do with it. would it be worth trying to piece off, or to try and sell "as is" for a project or track car? Does anyone know if there is anything BMW can do (recalls or anything)???
