Just a follow up to let you know how the swap turned out. I am totally satisfied with the results. Soaking the back side of the leather completely removes the indentation left by the side panels. I would revise my instructions as follows:

After cutting the hole for the seat control switch, soak the back side of the leather _before_ stretching the flap over the tang. This allows better access and lets you get close to the hole without getting the control wet.
