In Reply to: HELP Going to change M50 head gasket any tips??? posted by sbcncsu on August 19, 2001 at 19:35:10:

I guess you have the following:
1- MUST have the bentley manual.
2- Take the compression of your cylinders to check how good your engine is
3- Perform the simple vacuum gauge test.
4- You can double check that the headgasket is really leaking by performing a leakdown test.
5- Change all the headcylinder bolts.
6- It is the time when you can tell to yourself: do I want to spend more money by having the head modified... hehehe. Even if you don't want any modif, find a good shop to have the head tested and cleaned.
7- Call BMA and ask them to ship you the parts you need at a great price.

Take your time, get a lot of plastic bags and write the name of the parts on each of them... That will help if you have to put the parts back a week later.

Good luck...
