If you don't have an air chisel, try to beg, borrow, or steal one from a friend. Re-install the nut on the balljoint by a couple of turns then, using the pointed bit in the air chisel, pop away on the dimple on the bottom of the balljoint. After a few bumps, the balljoint will pop out and the nut on the threads will stop the thrust arm from flying upwards.
If you can't get access to air tools, undo the tie rod, undo the bolts on the thrust arm and lower control arm, and finally undo the three bolts on the bottom of the strut. You should now have the steering arm with the two control arms attached by their balljoints. Place the steering arm in a vice and whack away at the offending balljoint with the pickle fork.
Good luck
Alex
I have a pickle fork, Ive beaten the bolt to death and I cannot get the damn thing to move. How can I get the ball joint bolt out? I need the car for work in 12 hours.
