My 530i 93 V8 problem is the check control displays lic.plate, tail, side, dip lights out all at the same time when i switch on and sometimes after 10mins-1hour? The other problem is in the fuse box i do not have a mustard relay in place of this item there is a shot green relay?
I have swaped the LKM with the one in my 735i 89 and all was fine for about a week then all lights reporting out but no light problems on inspection? the 5 lkm went into the 7 and has worked fine now for about 2 months? Is there an earthing problem? or something else i should check?

Simon,
I have a 1994 540 and went through a similar problem. I had dipped beam, tail, and stop and licence plate, sometimes together and sometimes not. Only clue was nothing showed up unless head or park lights were on. This can be explained for all except the brake lights which are supervised at all times while the others are only supervised when the light switch is on. I do not think you have an LKM problem.
After a lot of time and frustration, checking earths, new LKM, etc. the problem was found to be caused by interference coming from the headlight throw adjusters which have their supply connected to load side of the headlight switch. Bentley manual does not show this as I believe they were not fitted to US spec cars. I live in Australia and we get European spec cars. Disconnect the headlight throw adjusters and see if problem goes away. If so you will need new adjusters or do without them.

Ron THANKS saved my a lot of time would never think of looking there. 1 motor is blown unpluged and drove home no errors Bliss thanks again.

Simon,
No problem, glad this helped. I did it the hard way as no one had experienced this before. Put up with for 9 months. Message board got some recommendations but no solution. Local BMW dealer had another car with same problem. BMW Technical also did not have answer. Dealer gave me a loan car and kept mine for about 2 weeks and found by trial and error. I think if they had used a scope and electronics trouble shooting procedures this would take 2 hours, not 40, but I don't think they are trained this way.. My bill was heavily subsidised and I believe BMW are going issue a Tech Bulletin on this.
Regards,

Ron W
