FWIW: On my Nissan Sentra SE-R (2 liter 140hp engine), I ran synthetic from new, drove it like I stole it in cold cold upstate New York, and changed on the average between 5 and 7k.

It got tired and logy so I got a 540 to replace it. When fixing it up to sell it I found to my vast surprise cylinder compression of 180 psi in all four holes at 183k miles!

Raised eyebrows, scratched head, and spent the next few weeks disassembling and reconditioning all engine control devices and tuning up perfectly. Found evidence of Nissan dealer conspiracy to leave running crappy in order to sell me a new one. NOT happy about that. Am VERY happy about keeping it and selling off wife's slow little Saturn instead.

And you can bet that I am running Valvoline synthetic changing on the average between 5 and 7k miles on the e34...
