A Jim C. Chip will give you an extra 33 ft-lbs of torque at 3000 rpm and is probably the best bang-for-the-buck improvements you can make. Your can order one at Eurosport ( They used to be about $250. You do, however, have to use premium fuel, but on my car the 10% improvement in gas mileage made up the difference in price. I am satisfied with mine. Good Luck.

Recently when I purchased my '95 540i I selected an automatic over another the dealer had that was a manual... (still kicking myself). Anyway, I like the speed and torque, but that only happens when you get the rpms up. Off the line, the car is not quick. I've heard of chips etc... What suggestions do you have on purchases and driving tips (short of neutral drops) that would make this car quicker off the line?
