In my opinion a high end car with paintwork and replacement panel/panels is devalued by a good 10% or more. There was an article in Roundel a few years back about a lawsuit were a car was repainted due to acid rain and the purchaser was never told. The selling dealer estimated that the car was devalued by 10% due to repaint during the trial.
The reality is that it might look great now but how is it going to hold up in the future? Is the clear going to craze, dull, or lift?
If I'm goint to pay for a new car I expect to get a new car with no damage/repairs.
I recently had some non-auto dealings with the manager of a Mercedes dealership and we began to bs about cars. He told me that they use an electronic guage to messure paint thickness on panels and try to avoid reworked cars. We both agreed that it's getting tougher to spot paint work by eye.
