i think the 7 seconds is from a test of the manual version. the mid-8's are i believe automatics. there were some references to different differential ratios over the years - this was only the automatics (at least in the US). they went from a rear diff. ratio of 3.91 to 4.27 in the US sometime after '89 to improve acceleration. i believe the manual trannys all had the same 3.46
I was looking at 0-60 times on different websites and for some reason the 89 535auto is listed at 7 sec. Then the 90,91,92+ are listed at 8.6 seconds and 8.4 seconds. Ive never seen this mentioned here. Why the power difference?
