On some UUC short shifter kits, the instructions call for trimming the shifter console. In many cases this is for proper engagement, but I've noticed that the vibrations appear to be diminished when the shifter is not in contact with the shift console.

Do you have clearance with the shifter and the shifter console? How smoothly does it go into reverse? Do you feel any vibration in Reverse?

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've had a question for everybody, but I have one today. If some of you recall a while ago I had a new shift rod installed in my 1989 535i 5-spd. I broke my retaining cup from the old one and the guy at the shop replaced it with a shift rod with a shorter throw (from an E-36 M3 I believe). Now after having it in for some months and a couple thousand miles I have begun to notice an interesting vibration in 1st and 3rd gear under heavier acceleration between 2,000 and 4,000 RPMs. The one in first is stronger than the one in third. It kind of bounces the shifter and feels like it wants to bounce it out of gear. I have no slippage and it never pops out of gear and I noticed that it feels better in different positions in those two gears (there is play in every gear). The linkage underneath was not replaced. Any suggestions before I bring it in to have it looked at. I don't want to be screwing up my transmission.

Scott '89 535i 5-spd 72,000miles(man I bought it in April with only 65,000miles)
