Get under the car and grab the lower arms with some channel locks. Move them and if the ball joints look very loose (they will move some) replace them.

Have 525iT. Have replaced thrust-arms which fixed shimmy. But then notices a jolt in the steering wheel when one wheel would hit a bump independent of other wheel. Only noticed this at low speed, i.e. crossing a speed-bump at an angle. Anyway have replaced sway-bar links and outer tie-rods, and idler arm. Steering feels much better, but still feel a little jolt in steering wheel when crossing speed bumps. Am wondering if it could be lower control arms. Maybe I'm just expecting too much, but my truck and my (former) Miata never exhibited a jolt to the steering wheel when crossing speed bumps at an angle.
