Computer revealed tranny error codes at dealer.... (archive)

So, I talked to the dealer today, while they had my car up on the rack, to show me how to check the tranny fluid.

Yup, it's a 95 540iA.

So, he smiles, and proceeds to tell me about how the BMW computer system they have, has to be connected to the tranny and circulate the fluid just to the right temperature, for the right amount of time, during a full moon on Thursday, etc...

That's right. There is no dipstick or filler plug to check. It's a $100 bill to check the tranny fluid!!!!!

Anyone else have this experience?
