I've located what seems to be a nearly perfect example that we may be buying this Saturday, September 1st. It is a 1995 525iT with 76,000 miles. From the records I've uncovered through two bmw dealers, it seems to have been meticulously maintained. However one very odd and unexplained fact is that it has a brand-new bmw factory sealed transmission and transmission control units with less than 200 miles on them.
To me that was a bit of a red flag. I can't understand why the transmission would need replacing at such low mileage, and on top of that why someone would have gone to such expense to then sell it or trade it in. Due to confidenciality laws, I can't contact the first owner and the dealer has no notes other than that the work was done.
The car shows no sign of being poorly treated, in fact the bmw buyer's inspection I paid for came out with flying colors.
I suppose this shouldn't worry me - everything seems perfect otherwise. Any comments on these cars in general or the case of the brand-new transmission specifically?
Thanks in Advance,
Craig
