Sorry for sounding stodgy (I'm only 31), but perhaps it's time to re-prioritize? By all means take good car of your car and enjoy it, but don't short-change the (I guess I'm hoping here, for your and his/her sake) most important person in your life for a car. I've had many amazing, wonderful drives in both e34s (we share them both), but honestly it's nothing like being with another human that you love.

Beyond that, perhaps setting expectations is key - let your friends/family/SO know what projects you've got planned and how much time you expect to be working on the car. When you just start working in the morning and don't come in from the garage all day, it can be frustrating for others.

No offense meant to anyone, just perhaps a different perspective.
