I've been getting a recurring Coolant Low light lately. Sometimes it really does seem to be low, and a quart or so of coolant tops it off and extinguishes the light. But last night the light came on again with the coolant level near the top.

(If I'm really losing fluid I'm worryied that it might be another head gasket problem. My first was a warped head caused an overheat after a water pump failure.)

My question is this: Does the sensor usually fail in the OFF position (such that it won't tell you when the fluid is low)? Or will it fail in the ON position (such that it tells you you're low when you're not)?
