I did the same exercise and bought the same care. After about 1 year, I ended up having to have the Nikisil block replaced and got an Alusil block put in. This is major surgery - best to get an Alusil that works well. My M60 needed some adjustments after the work was done (all covered by the guys who did the job) and has been fine ever since.

I am told the M60 has performance cams that make it difficult to feel slight variances just from the idle. The cost of a leakdown test is money well spent.
