Drew pointed me to the ETK - it is the correct badge for a '90.

I looked at a 535-5 speed last night. It has some undefined history that is visible - I am pretty sure that the driver's side front quarter has been resprayed, but no discernable bondo and a good match. The windshield was a replacement. The 535i badge was from an e28, but it didn't look as though the trunk had been repainted (strange, that). And the driver's side rear wheelwell was pushed in a bit, like they drove too close to something soft but firm (paint looked okay). All seemed to be cosmetic problems that wouldn't frighten me too badly. It's a 90, dark green, clearcoat looked pretty good, but could use some TLC, very clean parchment leather and wood interior, 76K miles. It's at a dealer/service shop with BMW techs and they are asking 11,500. With some questions about the body, I may wait and see if it lasts there for another month and then go lowball them and see if they bite. I haven't driven it yet, but if you want some pictures or would like me to take her for a spin, let me know. I love driving other people's cars!

Mercy, I think I may find a car by next year. I have looked and called on so many cars. I thought I had found the one last week, but I took it to a friends shop to look at it on the lift, and it needed new rotors, temp sensor, thrust arms, pan gasket, valve cover gasket, 1 high beam (water inside), rear muffler, and the one thing that really turned me off, prob. needs a head gasket.

Even after discussing this with the owner, still wanted high 8 grand ish for it.

Everyone else thinks these are still worth 15-16 k for a 92 ish 100k mile+ 525 or 535. I still appreciate leads, and I have called on several of them only to find out the car has been sold.

Oh well, back to autotrader and cars.com...
