There is a ground-wire terminal attached to one of the bolts holding the thermostat housing to the block. Is it possible that this wire wasn't re-attached during r&r of the thermostat, or is loose? Depending on hwo the ground circuit for those lights is run, that wire could affect it. If the problme surfaced after work on the cooling system, I would look there first for the problem before tearing the car apart.
