One other thing - subscribe to the 530i/540i mailing list, www.530i.org.

You'll find an ever-continuing discussion of the Nikasil issue on the board - and you could always post and ask for a poll of Nikasil owners in CA.

From my observations of the list over the last month or so, those w/ Nikasil blocks appear to be 50/50 in CA at the moment - some have no trouble at all, some fail hard & early.

Cheers,
Dan

Have any of you had problem with your car, regarding the M60/sluphur issue? I am looking to buy a 540i and I am skeptical of buying it because of this. I have done the research and when looking for one I plan to check the records and the casting numbers on the short block. The extended warranty is almost over, if not already (it's been 6 years!!). If I were to purchase one, I don't know how I would get a leakdown test for it because I doubt the owner selling it to me would lend me his car to do it, even though I would pay for it. The only way I could get a leakdown test done on the car I wanted is if I were to buy it through a dealer, which I wont do because of the mark up prices they sell the cars for. What have you all done?

Dan
