I already have the $4 gasket to do the replacement, unfortunately, I will have to remove the PS pump and alternator to get to the filter housing. Major labor for a $4 part.....
It _could_ also be the intake side of the valve cover gasket, which is much easier to replace. You were thinking of replacing it anyway - probably a better place to start.
Last night I said that the oil level has not changed. Well tonight it is down to the upper notch. (down about 1/10" on dipstick as checked before putting on ramps)
If any of you read my post last night about having an oil leak after switching to synthetic, well here's an update.
I cleaned the underside of the engine thorougly then took car for my 3 mile test drive. Put it back up on ramps and here's what I found.
Fresh oil film on sub-frame cross member just behind what I think is the oil level sensor on the oil pan (it's opposite side of drain plug and on bottom of pan with three bolts). There was also small patch of oil film on center tie rod right behind sub-frame cross member. The problem is I didn't see oil anywhere else. It did NOT look like oil was leaking from around the oil level sensor.
I put white paper napkins under the car tonight and will look in the morning for evidence. The car is still sitting on ramps though so that may change things somewhat.
Any other ideas out there? Please!
