Rick,

I replaced my O2 sensor a year or so ago and it required dropping the exhaust. BMW may have some special tool, but I'd kind of doubt it. As you've discovered, that thing is up there in no man's land. We finally put the car up on stands, dropped the center portion of the exhaust down, and changed the sensor. Sorry!
